Bears Hit Bottom, Ask Miller To Come Back

In case the Bears forgot the offensive line last season, well it sucked.  Becuase of that the Bears released tackle Fred Miller.

Faced with a lot of injuries the Bears have reached out to the former Bear to make a return.

Agent Harold Lewis said Miller, 35, is mulling whether to sign with the Bears, Texans or Ravens. The decision could be finalized in the next day.

"His preference would be to return to the Bears," Lewis said Thursday evening.

Miller was released in February for salary cap reasons. He was heading into the final two years of his five-year, $25.5 million contract. He was due a $500,000 bonus on March 1 and scheduled to make $4 million this season.

The article goes on to say that this will allow the Bears to move John Tait back to left tackle.  John St. Clair,  Josh Beekman and Anthony Oakley would all get looks at left guard.

Maybe I should take this opportunity to remind the Bears there is a guy who would be a better pickup still available.  I don't think I really need to mention names...AGAIN.

John Tait Moved To Right?

With the drafting of Chris Williams with the Bears first pick it has been assumed that incumbent left tackle, John Tait,  would move to the right side and let Williams, considered the only true left tackle in the draft, take over that spot, but nothing was official.

While it still isn't at camp John Tait ran reps with the first team at the right side with John St. Clair working on the left side.

Both moves make sense.  Get Tait as many reps at right and St. Clair practices at left in case Williams is a hold out or isn't ready to take over the position.

Josh Beekman Back In the Mix

I know one question that has been bandied about here for some time concerns 2nd year lineman Josh Beekman of Boston College.  He was not used last year, partly do to injury.  Many wondered where he fit into this year's roster.

During a Q&A with Lovie Smith that very question was asked in relation to who would replace Ruben Brown:

Terrence Metcalf has started a few games since he’s been around here, and we like his potential. Josh Beekman hasn’t had a chance to play, but he’s done some good things too. We know that John St. Clair has started for us inside, but right now John St. Clair is a tackle. I would say it would be between Terrence Metcalf and Josh Beekman at this time. As far as your second question, there aren’t any plans to re-sign Ruben right now.
