Griese On Record Setting Pace

Yes, it is early, but anytime a Bears QB is making news than it is big time.

Through 4 games Brian Griese's yards per game is 300.8.  Tops of all QBs except Tom Brady.

At his current pace he would be projected to throw 26 TDs and 20 picks this year.  I think the picks might be on the high side.  The projection also gives him 332 completions in 530 attempts for 3,910 yards.  Each would set Bears records currently held by Erik Kramer.

Griese currently has a 62.6 completion rate and a QB rating of 86.

if griese keeps this up
well, not this pace, but something similar to it, i think we might be able to hold off drafting a QB this year. while i'm not crazy about him, he was always a good QB. and he's not that old. he was drafted the same year as peyton manning and is only one year older than brady. i'd rather use our higher picks to draft for some glaring needs. specifically, we really need to get some young linemen, a SS, and a change-of-pace RB. orton isn't a bad option as backup. and quite honestly, i wouldn't mind resigning rex to an incentive-laden contract. i doubt he's getting any big offers. i still think he's got the talent to be a very good QB. he just needs to get better w/ his decision-making and pocket presence. if he doesn't, whatever, i'm comfortable with griese.

griese
will be the qb next year, but i still think we draft a qb unless they think orton is the future. how high they draft a qb is the question though.

agreed
my guess is grossman is gone after the season is over, griese is the #1 and orton is the #2 with whoever they draft being #3 unless he is an absolute stud.
all the way to Arizona

They still draft a QB.
Just means that they don't have to "give up" on next season before it starts. Griese will see the writing on the wall, hopefully not pout and do his best to help the youngster take his job.

You know what the worst scenario is? The Bears finish in the 15-20 range and miss out on the Big 3, then won't reach for Booty, Henne, Brennan or Ainge, and then those guys are gone before the Bears' 2nd round pick. The first part is probable, the second part is unlikely. But it would definitely suck.
